Pros:
-size, very compact
-can be placed horizontally or vertically to save space
-does a very good job of removing particles from the air
-ionizer removes odors
-price, try to find an air purifier/ionizer for under $40
Cons:
-fully effective for rooms 110 square feet or smaller
-noise level (at low it is slightly noticable, on medium you have to turn up the tv a few notches, on high it sounds like a fan or air conditioner on full blast)
For the price, it does a terrific job in smaller rooms with the only drawback being the noise (which on low is very bearable). I leave it on high all day while I'm at work, switch to medium in the evening and low at night and it does the trick.

I've owned this air purifier for about 7 years now. Keep in mind any air purifier that has a high output fan and is highly efficient and is going to move a significant amount of air is going to have some fan noise. Don't buy this or any high output fan-based purifier thinking it is whisper quiet.
The only way to get around this is to have a whole-house central-air purifier where the mechanics, fans and motors are in the garage and the duct work is throughout the house. This would be the only way to eliminate noise completely and still have a high output air purifier.
---- Pros ----
The price is affordable. Check around for the best price. I've seen it at Home Depot for $39.99. At that price you can buy two of them for a medium to large room!
The product is small, and compact enough to sit on a counter, bookshelf, table. The looks are appealing and sleek and it tends to blend in well with the surroundings.

I purchased two of these little units and I must say they are definately a bargain at this price. Most importantly though they really do the job.You can check the black liner a few days later and you will be amazed how much this little purifier sucks out of the air.I live in Ny and my home gets plenty dusty no matter how much I clean. This has helped my family breath easier.I am going to purchas a third on now,so I thought I would just share my experience while here.P.S. filters only need to be bought every six months thats a pro...cons only one...can be a little noisy if you are used to having complete silence in your home....to me the clean air is worth it!

Seven Types of Filtration for Cleaner Air Whether you need to remove allergens or odors from your home or office, the Intelli-Pro is up to the task. While other air purifiers use two or three types of filtration, the Intelli-Pro Air Purifier uses seven: a HEPA filter, an activated carbon filter, an ionizer, a photocatalytic (TiO2) filter, a germicidal UV lamp, a washable pre-filter, and an electrostatic dust collector.
The Intelli-Pro's HEPA filter is proven in clinical air chamber tests to remove 99.97% of airborne particles in areas up to 600 square feet. The activated carbon filter is effective against chemicals, odors, and cigarette smoke, and the UV lamp kills bacteria and other microorganisms. The Intelli-Pro's reusable collector grid uses magnetic force to trap pollutants and help lengthen the life of the other filters.
Sensor Technology Removes Guesswork With the Intelli-Pro, there's no guesswork, just clean air. The Intelli-Pro's unique self-monitoring system gives you instant, easy-to-read feedback about the purifier's performance. A Clean Air Monitor uses indicator lights to let you know how clean or polluted the air is. Additionally, odor, dust, and allergen sensors tell you exactly which pollutants are present in the air, an ideal feature for those with allergies.
And thanks to the Intelli-Pro's Filter Indicators, you'll never have to worry about forgetting to clean or replace the filters. The indicators illuminate when it's time to clean the metal dust collector plate or replace the HEPA filter or activated carbon filter.
Quiet, Efficient Operation The Intelli-Pro lets you enjoy purified air without noise pollution. The quiet setting provides nearly silent operation, while the high setting provides boosted performance without a lot of noise.
As efficient as it is quiet, the Intelli-Pro has a low-volume fan and multiple air inlets for maximum airflow. Additionally, sensor technology automatically adjusts the purifier's settings to reduce energy consumption.
Warranty Information The Intelli-Pro comes with a 30-day risk-free guarantee. Within 30 days of purchase, if you're not completely satisfied with the purifier, you may return it for a full refund. If you decide to keep it, the Intelli-Pro is backed by a three-year warranty on defects in materials and workmanship.

Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier Reviews
This review is from: Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier (Health and Beauty)
A little research pays off! This was my first air purifier purchase. Originally, I was going to buy an ionic one. But, I was amazed once I started researching how little I knew!
In case you're in the same boat, Here's the criteria I ultimately set, ratings for this model on the criteria, and my experience with it:
CRITERIA #1: Must noticably reduce our allergies, clear smoke and odors: 5+ Stars! Have had it two months with a smoker, a hairy dog, and allergy season in full bloom. Reduced allergies and no breathing problems at home since we got it. Noticable quick removal of odors and smoke!
(NOTE: More power than I even intended. You may be able to get a cheaper model if you don't want all this one has: A) Electrostatic/Ionic- attracts pollutants from a wide area, but not odors and allergens B) Carbon - clears smoke, odors and pollutants but not germs and allergens C) HEPA - traps even the smallest of allergens, but nothing... Given that there weren't many reviews out when I bought this purifier, I figured I'd take a minute and give a brief review of it after having used it for a few weeks.
Out of the box:
It's a very lightweight machine that has a very elegant/professional look to it. The "Flow, Timer, and Power" buttons feel a little like cheap plastic, but it's really not a big deal, nor does it diminish the look of the purifier.
In Action:
When I first started it up, I heard a little bit of "static" noise coming from the ionizer, as it was possibly collecting the dust that was in the packaging that it was shipped in. Within a minute, that noise was gone, and it has been operating very smoothly and quietly for the last few weeks. I live in a house with central air, and the air quality is pretty good, but since I have bad allergies, I wanted to get a purifier. To be honest, I'm not sure if I can tell the difference, if any, it has made in improving the air... Read more

It's bigger than it looks in the pictures: Stands about thigh-high. This put me off at first...but then I plugged it in. First impression: It's not doing anything.
After two days: I want to have it's babies.
I have allergies...miserable miserable allergies, and I just moved back to maryland during the worst allergy season I've seen in years. To a house with three smokers. And Two Dogs. And Two Cats. This house has clutter (re: dust) and mold and four plants in the livingroom and old carpets. It has old furniture and crummy filters but it DOES have ceiling fans!
This house is allergy hell.
and this purifier?...Ah...I swear I can breathe again. It cleans up the air (auto setting rocks!) of the entire 500 sq/ft first floor from *awful* to *clear* in roughly 20 minutes, and if it's running constantly, it never gets intolerable. In fact, it barely ever gets to worse than "do you smell something?" for more than a minute or two,... Read more

Honeywell HHT-081 Tower Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter Reviews
This review is from: Honeywell HHT-081 Tower Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter (Kitchen)
One thing I learned about filters is that you definitely get what you pay for. When you drop big coin on a pricey, hospital quality filter you can expect perfection in performance and air quality. When you spend $75-$125 like I did on this air filter then you get what you pay for. This medium room purifier with "HEPA Type" filters is said to be about 95% effective at removing air born allergens. The two HEPA type filters are permanent along with the secondary outer carbon filter for bigger air particles. The ionizer is also fairly effective at changing the overall smell of the room. If you choose not to have the ion smell you can simply ignore the button that turns that feature on. I've owned this filter for about 3 months now and it will occasionally buzz a little at high speeds. However, with mine it is easily fixed by tapping the top or by adjusting the tightness of the back plate. Low and medium speeds are pretty quite though. It has great dimensions as well making it... This review is from: Honeywell HHT-081 Tower Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter (Kitchen)
Let me begin by saying that I purchased this air purifier for my mom who, (like myself) suffers from horrible allergies. Dust, moisture, etc - it virtually all sends her into a sneezing fit. Congestion, stuffy nose, and other annoyances frequent her days.
So anything to give some relief is a God-sent. However, I found myself extremely skeptical as to the actual effectiveness of these "air filtration devices". That is - until I spoke to my uncle who owns this same model. He said that it really helped to remove the dusty, musty smell from his living room.
This was a gift for her for Christmas 2008, but I had considered one of these last year.
I helped her set it up today, and here are the (admittedly) early findings.
Pros; 1) VERY easy to set up out of the box. Just take it out of the box, remove plastic bag from machine, and open the plastic bags containing the filter cartridges, and place them back into the machine. Then just... Read more

This review is from: Honeywell HHT-081 Tower Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter (Kitchen)
The description says HEPA filter, but the box said HEPA-type filter. I am not sure what this will mean for the life of the filter, as I have vaccumed it several times and it still looks dirty. However there seems to be less dust in the room and my son says he has less allergy issues at night, so - so far so good.
I origninally rated this 4 stars, but would downgrade to 2 stars. I have owned this for almost a year now, the fan now makes an annoying rattling sound that lessens somewhat on the high setting. The 'clean filter' light has come on and stayed on even though I vacuum it weekly. For what I paid I am disappointed in the performance.
